Interesting story. Public school gets slammed with applicants, wants to first maintain quality and then gradually expand. Read the article Well-Regarded Public Colleges Get a Surge of Bargain Hunters from the NY Times featuring SUNY New Paltz, where Sasaki is currently starting a Landscape Master Plan for the campus.
I bet we'll see a lot of this across the country. Makes me think - could Sasaki offer "recession strategy" plans to schools? Which might basically include an abbreviated analysis of space needs and financial tradeoffs--without as much design work-- that would be conducted in 3 months and create a 2/3-year plan... It would focus on how best to accommodate reduced state financial resources + increased enrollment applications.
We could answer questions like: Take the money from more students? Deny them and increase quality? What is school capacity? How could it be quickly increased? Just thinking...

Chris, this is a great idea - and is the focus of the presentation I'm giving at SCUP next week in Portland. The talk is called "The College Funding Crisis - Five Ways Planners Can Help"
Philip, we'd love to see excerpts from your presentation posted here when you get back!
