The Relationship Between Habitat and Design

By Mark Reaves posted on Fri, 2009-06-19 12:12 , 226 reads, 0 comments

Projects should, to the greatest extent practical, preserve the integrity of the natural living systems on the site.  Additionally, the project should look for opportunities to make enhancements to habitat that may be stressed or otherwise locally or regionally at risk of being lost. Ecologically-responsible development should avoid impacts to ecosystems (primarily habitat), minimize the impacts that may be inherent in the project, and as an action where impact is unavoidable, provide mitigation that exceeds the ecological impact of the action, thereby restoring the ecology of the site.
