Understanding Public Space through Scale Comparisons

By Steven Wilson posted on Thu, 2009-07-02 10:17 , 1570 reads, 0 comments

Understanding the precise scale and proportion of the places we are familiar with as well as the iconic places that are widely admired, can help to inform and validate our design proposals. The attached powerpoint presents an overview of wide collection of same scaled comparisons for urban parks, plazas and streets that have been collected at Sasaki over the past thirty years. Included are links to Sasaki's Scale Database and other collections of plans, sections, 3d axonometric drawings, sketchup models, and related photographs that are searchable by place or category. Most of the plan comparisons can be easily printed to the same scale, or digitally integrated into project specific presentations.
