Great site created by Hans Rosling (a Swede of course) which allows you to track any number of statistics for the countries of the world. The excellent thing about this site is that the emphasis lies on providing a graphical representation of the data being analyzed. You can compare countries, cities, and even states in the US, along a graph axis or overlaid upon a map. The data is from various UN reports and allows you to, for example, compare countries according to the quality of people's teeth. Much of the work we do focuses on how to convey information effectively to our clients and this website reinforces the power of articulate graphics. Think how exciting this information would be if it were a series of spreadsheets and monochromatic excel charts?
There are several interesting videos on the website and I would recommend watching Professor Rosling's presentation at the 2006 TED conference. The acquisition of the software by Google may provide some indication of the software's potential.
Chart that tracks income per person on one axis and bad teeth per child on the other.
