Great site created by Hans Rosling (a Swede of course) which allows you to track any number of statistics for the countries of the world. The excellent thing about this site is that the emphasis lies on providing a graphical representation of the data being analyzed. You can compare countries, cities, and even states in the US, along a graph axis or overlaid upon a map. The data is from various UN reports and allows you to, for example, compare countries according to the quality of people's teeth.read more

I'm not sure how useful this application is for our day-to-day planning purposes, but it does demonstrate an interesting use of Google Earth for thematic mapping.
