Alternatives to conventional lawns is a recurring topic among Sasaki's landcape architects interested in sustainability.  Traditional, high-input turfgrass has long been recognized as having the potential for negative environmental impacts.  These impacts come largely from excessive water consumption, nutrient runoff, pesticide and herbicide use, and equipment emissions.
