Building Information Systems have transformed the way architects develop options, make decisions and share information with clients, developers and contractors. This has been made possible by software that links many key decisions to dynamic variables that can be reconsidered or tweaked at any point in the design and documentation process. City One and "serious gaming"

A new city simulation game being released by IBM. It's apparently part of a growing interest in "serious gaming." May be a fun way to disperse hard questions to many people to find innovative solution. Could be especially useful in a university environment.

Want Parcels? Slice a site using roads

By Ken Goulding posted on Fri, 2009-06-19 10:18 , 223 reads, 0 comments

A new tool in SmartPlan lets you create open space and development parcels by slicing a site with roads. One can then assign landuse and density assumptions to the resulting parcels for fast and accurate area take-offs. Roads can be added and edited as the design evolves for up to the minute program info.
